About the position

We’re building a communications function in an organization at the leading edge of technology and social impact, and are looking for a Communications Specialist to help us shape this work. Reporting to the Communications Director, you’ll oversee project management and hands-on work across brand development, internal communication, stakeholder engagement, media relations, and social media. The right candidate will bring strong digital media skills, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, the ability to handle and meet deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously, and a collaborative, roll-up-your sleeves spirit.


Things you’ll do:

  1. Support the development and execution of Foundation’s communications plan. The communications specialist will work under the direction of the communications director to identify opportunities and help design our approach to communications and thought leadership
  2. Organize and prioritize a growing portfolio of communications projects by creating and maintaining an internal project management system for tracking project budgets, calendars, partnerships, and content development
  3. Manage digital communications tools and infrastructure. Build and maintain a variety of mailing lists, develop newsletters and announcements using Mailchimp, regularly update the Foundation’s website, and work with communications director to post content on social media
  4. Writing and editing for a variety of communications deliverables such as announcements, newsletters, and website updates
  5. Support media relations efforts under the direction of the communications director
  6. Support external engagement by working with the communications director to prepare agendas and collateral for engagement with partners and by helping to manage partner relationships
  7. Build our culture. On our small (and growing) team, every member is an important part of building our systems, processes, and culture


The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience working in a fast-paced industry or non-profit communications department. Technology or agency backgrounds are welcome.
